KampKid for parents

KampKid is a calm, read-aloud camping skills game for kids ages 5 to 11, made by Blackwater Outdoor Journeys LC. This page is for the grown-up who is deciding whether it fits your child.

How it teaches

Kids practice real outdoor ideas through pictures, voices, matching, sorting, maps and choices. Tilla the otter and Lance the camper guide the story, and their voices can be turned on or off. There are eight camps, each on one skill: see the eight camps.

Three modes for three ages

A grown-up chooses the mode. The App Store lists KampKid in its Kids category for ages 6 to 8, and the printed Camp Books are for ages 6 to 10.

Safety

Fire, stoves, boiling water, first aid and wildlife are learning topics to practice only with a grown-up. Real-world challenge cards tell the child to do the activity with a grown-up, and the grown-up confirms through the parent gate. KampKid is not certification, emergency instruction or medical instruction.

Privacy

The app collects no personal information from children or adults. There are no accounts, ads, analytics, tracking or advertising ID. Links out of the app, the rating prompt, support and purchases are behind a parent gate. Read the full privacy policy.

What is free and what costs money

Chapter 1 is free, in your browser at kampkid.com/play and in the apps when they open. A one-time $5.99 purchase unlocks Chapters 2 to 8 across all three modes: by card on the web (through Stripe, behind the parent gate), or through Apple or Google in the apps. A web purchase does not unlock the apps, and an app purchase does not unlock the web version. Every printed Camp Book also includes the full game on the web.

Offline play

The App Store and Google Play apps work fully offline. The web version needs an internet connection to load.
